It was magical to be away, and upon return everything collides: parent-teacher conferences, busy schedules, and everyone in the house sick with one form or another of a nasty virus that’s been going around. Now, trying to catch up. That’s what vacation always does for me, like the few seconds of pause between fast-tempoed songs on an album. I’m looking forward to the weekend. To sharing about New Orleans, to getting artwork ready for my studio sale, and to making a bonfire. Right now though, I still need to make it through today and tomorrow.
Music always helps, and I’m dying for some new tunes.
What are you loving right now?

This is my latest favorite new song!! Delta Rae is just this amazing band out of NC- you can download a free live show on their website- just a lovely group!! Enjoy!!
Ruth Moody. Perfect tunes for this time of year.
My current music to create by, live by, enjoy life by and something for every mood and moment. Most of these fall under Alternative or Singer/Songwrite genre’s
Band: Piano Chocolate – Album: Morning Coffee, instrumentals to start the day, not to heavy or light, perfect to ease into the day. If you search this you will find the free download but it’s also available on Itunes.
Completely Switching gears to the other end of the spectrum.
Fun. Some Nights. Favorite playful, rockin’ gotta move to band. These guys get air time on the radio. But I love the happy, crazy, no holds barred attitude of this album. Be aware, a wee bit of explicit language so not a good choice for the car or when the wee, tender ears are under foot. I just think this is all out a good time listen. I don’t like all of the songs on the album but the ones I do, I’ve listened to non stop some days. Their other album is just as good, slightly different feel, again I don’t care for the entire playlist but there are some groovin tunes on the album. Lyrics range from poignant to silly, to sweet to what the heck are they singing about.
Swingin back the other direction and falling right into the middle.
Blind Pilot We Are The Tide. I just love these guys. Just good over all music by a band flying under the radar. Their other album 3 Rounds. Another gem, the difference here is that this is their first album, songs are a little more raw but still very good.
Larkin Poe. Discovered this all girl band from artist Mindy Lacefield; (Tims Sally) She did the cover art for some of their albums. Folksy, raw, untamed, a wee bit country but very non traditional, their voices are very different so it’s a band you either fall in love with or say no thank you to, but I fell head over heels for their tunes and create to it often.
Antje Duvekot The Near Demise of a Tightrope Walker. This woman has a melodic voice that pulls you in. Love her lyrics. a tiny bit folksy but after about a week playing this, I wanted her entire collection.
Alexi Murdock Time Without Consequence. Another voice that has it’s own ebbing groove. His most recognized song is All My Life. Alternative
Dispatch Circles Around The Sun. Rockin, lead singer at times sounds like Bono in his earlier years at least that is who I hear.
EffterKlang Magic Chairs. Very different and Unusual, a little hypnotic at times, droning at others, ya gotta let yourself just go with this to fully enjoy it. It’s great to art by if you like something outside the mainstream. I think it helps to be a little bit brave and open to appreciate this album and band.
Peter Broderick Float. Instrumental/electronica moving, gentle, ebbing sounds for every mood, quite and soothing, music that is compelely off the beaten path. The titles of each song tell you their story. I like this album when I prefer lyrics not to get in my way.
Mainstream favorites always
U2
Adele
Florence and the Machine
Cold Play
The Fray
Imogen Heap
Mumford
Snow Patrol
Are you a Mumford & Sons fan? Their new album is poetry and pluck, so very good. I can’t get enough of Imogen Heap these days either, and if I just want to rock, I find myself turning up The Black Keys.
So sorry to hear about the sickness; vacations are hard enough to recover from on their own. Love and get-well vibes to you all!
